Requirements to Receive Quota

In order to receive quota, iwi had to meet criteria set out in section 130 of the Maori Fisheries Act 2004, which included:

• Iwi must form a mandated iwi organisation (MIO) to hold assets transferred from TOKM
• MIO must set up a legal entity whose office holders are elected or appointed in line with the organisation's constitution
• The organisation needs to maintain a current register of all iwi members
