Becoming a Trustee
If you are interested in becoming a trustee, you should carefully read the Trust Deed, especially Schedule 1.
Any adult that meets the criteria in clauses 11 and 12 of Schedule 1 may be elected as a trustee. The nine highest polling candidates are elected as trustees by registered adult members of the Trust for three year terms. Retiring Trustees are eligible for re-election.
A Trustee may cease to be a member of the Board by (clause 4.2):
- Having been a Trustee for more than three years since his or her election
- Resigning in writing to the Trust
- Having not attended three consecutive Board meetings without leave or a proper reason for the absence
- Becomes of an unsound mind
- Being made bankrupt
- Being convicted of a dishonesty offence or crime punishable by three or more years in prison
- Breaching the Governance Charter
- Not living in New Zealand for six months or more, or
- Death.
A replacement Trustee to fill any vacancy is made from the highest polling eligible person in the most recent election of Trustees, in accordance with Schedule 1 of the Trust Deed. The new Trustee continues for the remainder to the term of the Trustee he or she replaced.
