Criteria for Membership of Tuhoe Fisheries
The Trust has been established for the benefit of all Tuhoe, whether they are registered with the Trust or not. However, only members of Tuhoe who are over the age of 18 years and registered with the Trust can vote at General Meetings.
In order to be a registered member of the Trust, an applicant must be:
"a person who affiliates to a Tuhoe Marae and a Tuhoe Hapu and who claims an antecedent (tipuna) who was an original owner of Tuhoe land or the sibling of such an owner and who is a descendant of Tuhoe or Potiki (being the primary ancestors of the Tuhoe tribe) and includes a person legally adopted by a member of Tuhoe but does not include a whangai".
[Guideline 5, Section F of the Registration Form at Schedule 2 of the Trust Deed]
Applications from members of Tuhoe, where possible should show the direct whakapapa lineage from Tuhoe or Potiki to their tipuna. The applicant's tipuna must be one who was alive about 1920 and was an original owner in a block of land in Te Urewera District.
