Tamati Cairns, Chairman


With a strong background knowledge in Te Reo Maori me ona Tikanga, a broad range of personal and professional life experiences, Tamati Cairns is committed to working toward the development of Tuhoe health, education, housing, social, political and economic strategies.
Tamati is pleased to be part of the TFCT and views this appointment on the Trust as an opportunity to enhance Tuhoe wellbeing me ona tikanga, and to be part of an excellent team of trustees that will ensure appropriate strategies and policies are introduced and monitored, and tangible results and benefits for Tuhoe ensue.

Penelope May Pimia Nicholas


“Ko te hono o Tuhoe ko te matemateaone te mea nui hei ara mo tatau.”
Penelope manages Te Toi Huarewa Trust providing health, education, justice, housing and social services to Tuhoe with a staff of twenty.  Before this, Penelope worked in central government in Wellington as a senior policy adviser for seven years.
Penelope has been a member of several government bodies and regional committees, including the Public Advisory Committee for the Legal Services Agency, and Consumer Representative Network.
Penelope has developed a number of skills relevant to her governance role on the TFCT through training in many disciplines, including governance, project management, dispute resolution, human resource management, the Treaty of Waitangi, auditing, employment relations, contract management and policy analysis.

Hiria (Celia) Soloman

Hiria has over twenty years senior management experience in government and private organisations, and is presently working for Te Puni Kokiri in the Rotorua regional office as a senior adviser.
Hiria’s strengths are in governance, management, strategic and business planning, which she believes will enable her to make a significant contribution to the effective management of the fisheries assets for the betterment of Tuhoe whanui.

Ihaka Tiniwai (Chas) Te Whetu


“Kia ora tatau, hurinoa i roto o Ngai Tuhoe whaanui.  Ko Te Mahurehure, Ko Ngati Rongo, Ko Hamua nga hapu, a i tipu ake i roto o te whaarua o Ruatoki.”
Chas has been a public servant for some 42 years and during this time has amassed a wealth of knowledge of government operations, and leadership and strategic management skills.
Chas holds that accountability and transparency are vital in any endeavour. 
Chas currently lives in Hamilton, is kaumatua for Te Hono a Te Kiore, father of three children and works for the Corrections Services.

Harata Charlotte Williams


Harata is a kuia of Te Tira Hou Marae in Auckland
Harata has met many interesting people from home and abroad, and enjoys interesting conversation with people from all walks of life.
Harata has a genuine passion and commitment in representing the interest of her people, in keeping them informed, particularly those of Tuhoe living in the Tamaki Makaurau rohe.

Janet Anini McLean


Janet’s affiliates to the Ohotu, Papakainga, and Owhakatoro marae and Whanau Pani, Ngati Koura, and Te Mauku hapu. 
Janet presently works for Bay of Plenty District Health Board as general manager, Planning and Funding Maori Health, and has extensive health sector knowledge, expertise and networks in government and the community.
Janet brings with her a range of valuable skills and experiences in strategic leadership, organisational management and governance.  Financial and contract management expertise and knowledge in Iwi governance matters.

Linda Waimarie Nikora


“He maha nga mate me nga tumanako o te iwi.  Ka whai au i te ora mo Tuhoe katoa.  Ko nga mahi kia marie kia rongo kia tau rite.”
Linda works as a senior lecturer, teacher and researcher at the University of Waikato in the area of community psychology and Maori development. 
Linda’s approach to trusteeship encompasses, transparency, attention to detail, a capacity to listen, an appreciation of law, a value of fairness and justice, an enjoyment of leading and working as a team.
Linda’s vision is to make a positive difference to the lives of future generations of Tuhoe.

Matthew John Te Pou M.N.Z.M; M.B.E; B.E.M, Deputy Chairman


Matt has a broad range of unique skills and experiences making him an excellent member of any board involved in serious financial matters.
On behalf of Nga Hapu of Tuhoe, he chaired Raupatu Claims during the Te Urewera hearings. 
Matt's career in business and his results-oriented attitude were evident as New Zealand Maori All Black Coach.

Richard Waiwai


“Teenaa koutou i roto i te Waikaremoanatanga oo te aroha me te Waikaretaheketanga oo te puutokatanga me te puuorangatanga mutunga korekore.”
Through his kuia Te Rana Waiwai of Te Kuuhaa, Waikaremoana and many koroua me kuia o te Waikaukau, Richard is adept in the teachings of his forebears with knowledge of Tuhoe traditions, protocols and practices.
Richard operates a consultancy business, Te Hautapu Consultants Ltd, working out of Hamilton.  Recent projects have included researching customary claims to the foreshore and seabed, cultural advice to Central North Island Waitangi Tribunal, facilitating the Maori Business and Professionals Association, and Ngaa Take Maori training for the Ministry of Justice.
Richard has acquired much of his experience through more than twenty years service with the Maori Land Court.  In that time, Richard rose to acting regional director responsible for forty staff and three offices, before leaving in 2004 to establish his own business consultancy, Te Hautapu Ltd.
